ABC gave classic, textbook, propaganda coverage on World News Tonight.
Charles Gibson began by stating that as the primary drags on, the democratic candidates are in danger of killing each other off, so that the country could end up with McCain.
All fine and valid. But this is how his report was illustrated.
First there was a cut of Obama, his face filled with sweetness, earnestly discussing how he wanted a civilized primary, without attacks. (This was probably well after his operatives had bullied and harrassed the Clinton supporters out of the blogs).
Charles Gibson showed how a percentage of Clinton and Obama supporters would not vote for each other in the primary.
Next shot. Bill Clinton telling a group that politics is a "contact sport," and he enjoyed the campaign combat.
Yet another propaganda story crafting the Clintons as evil, and little OBambi the innocent child of hope.
I resent MSM deciding our candidate, and inflicting him on us. The spin on other stations is that Hillary is "Tanya Harding" who is "kneecapping Obama." I feel badly for the Clintons. They have served this country well, and don't deserve this kind of abuse.
It isn't true that Hillary is the spoiler. She really is more electable. Hillary can carry the blue collar democrats. Obama can't. And you can vote for her without sacrificing liberal principles, because she is more liberal than Obama. Hillary won the big states, and the party is treating her like she's Dennis Kucinich. If the democrats give up the middle, they are going to lose again, just like they did with Reagan.Paul Krugman, the distinguished, progressive economist, is not particularly impressed with Obama's handle on how the war has shaped our economy.
Krugman is one of the few NYT regulars whose brains have not been swept off to the wondrous land of Obaphoria. I hope that one of you with more time than I, can use his fine article for the diary that it deserves.http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/24/opinio n/24krugman.html?_r=1&hp&oref=sl ogin
The Maureen Dowd faction has taken over the the New York Times.
They have gone beyond the initial swooning, fawning and gushing. This week, Obama morphed to OLincoln. And today, he's OChrist. The front page is sure to delight SNL writers.
It stops being funny when a the world's most respected newspaper puts its credibility on the line for a politician. When they pass spin off as news.
Even worse, today, Jeff Zeleny built a hit-piece around around a lie.
Had I not read Alegre's diary, I would now hate Bill Clinton. The piece in entirety is pasted below.
Jeff Zeleny implies Clinton's comment is contained. In actuality, Zeleny lifted it out of context. "it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country."Zeleny made it seem as if Clinton is taking advantage of the Wright fracas and is saying that Obama does not love his country. Or that Clinton should be running against McCain. Alegre's diary has the video, showing the offending sentence in its proper context. http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/3/22/21321/1712
The news isn't about Bill Clinton or Obama, it is about corruption within the New York Times.
I would be happy to participate in a "Take Back our Newspaper" demonstration in front of the NYT building next week-end. Or maybe a simple boycott is in order.
